Beginner Bass Amps from $69! See Rocktron
Ampeg was founded in 1949 by Everett Hull, a jazz bassist who experimented with an "amplified-peg" inside his upright bass; hence the name "Ampeg". He made electric pick-ups, then manufactured the first commercially successful bass amp, beating Leo Fender, who brought out his bass guitar and amp in 1952. I have three remaining "USA" amps in-stock; one is still "in-the-box"; the other two were used briefly by me to "demo" in my teaching studio to students, and are priced accordingly. The "USA" plant was closed in May 2007, and production was moved to China. While we have many fine products coming out of China (note "Sundown" below), Ampeg is an unique American tradition, and as far as I'm concerned, should remain an American tradition, but, hey, that's only the opinion of a professional union bassist who has played and taught for 38 years! By the way, I kept a new PBC228 "PortaBass" for myself, and I have a restored 1966 SB12 "PortaFlex" in my teaching studio!
Note: All "Ampeg" amps are sold "As-Is", No Factory Warranty (local repair available at extra cost).
